PICKUP LOADS IN THAILAND

No red flag and this guy cannot go on the Top Tollway Pattaya to Bangkok & there are no set rules in the Road Code in Thailand but the rules are enforced by the Thai Police. Check the rules below.

Using a pickup vehicle in thailand can be a hassle :

When driving on the roads in Thailand in a pickup remember you must have a cover over the full load. You also must display a red flag on the back of the load even if not protruding over the back of the pickup. Although there is a height limit for some reason it is not policed. You will often see trucks with loads extended over 2metres over the back axles which is illegal in many western countries and as you can see height means nothing although the rules say 1.5 higher than the pickup.

The above pickup is not OK as no cover over the whole load nor displaying a red flag. Tie downs are cheap to buy and this load is Ok apart from no cover over the settee & flag.

When driving on the express ways make sure you stay in the left lane. If 4 lanes you must stay in lanes 1 & 2.If you get picked up then you will be fined. Do not change lanes if you see a highway policeman waving cars down and driving in Bangkok do not change lanes at the last minute turning onto a Tollway?? The worst one for this is Pethcaburi Rd going to Bang Na or Chonburi --- offer 100 baht and the Thai Police will accept it OK as they love catching cars changing lanes at the kast minute or even 100 metres back. Carry plenty of notes for the tollways and you can ask for a receipt or "bai set".

As you can see the loads in Thailand are over the moon and no red flag is displayed but check out the main road rules for driving pickups & dos and don'ts in Thailand.
