TOURIST INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS TO MANILA,

SUBIC BAY

SUBIC BAY PHILIPPINES:

One cannot understand the meals served in Philippines as sometimes they include 1 piece of toast whereas in Thailand they give you 2-3 pieces of toast. Also meals usually do nto come with any drinks or only one drink like coffe but never refills. But ask for a glass of water. Check Pattaya Thailand for better deals and value meals then compare.

Kokomos large breakfast does not include a drink? but nice sausages approx 285P

Eating in Hotels in the Philippines can cost and arm and a leg but theres so many eating places that the best idea is to eat out. There are excellent food courts in most Mall places like Robinsons and fast food outlets like the popular JOLLIBEE.

Filipino Breakfast at Kokomos around 160P & Spaghetti Bolognaise around 235P

same in most places and Blue Rock has nice Thai chilli curries khao pat with kai dao egg . If you can't eat your meal in the Blue Rock they will put into a bag for you to take away.

400P for a Fishermans Basket Meal the Blue Rock Hotel Subic BUT no salads in the deal but ask for a glass of water. Comes with small mussels, battered fish bits, some prawns, squid rings and fries. A bit expensive for what it is???

Just remember drinks and toast are separate.Breakfasts are normally 200P above and again do not come with toast or drinks-- but ask for a glass of water which is OK and normally free???or they give you one slice of toast. Food in Subic Bay at Hotels seem to be dearer than the other places in the Philippines.Burgers sandwiches, etc run from 165P to 205P in the Blue Rock which is quite a lot by Asian standards but that the breaks eating in Hotels..

Also try walking up the street along the beach road and theres many eating places like Lucky Mikes Shop who has the best cheapest taco around @60P or 3 Mexican Tacos for 130P with salsa and breakfasts for 100P bacon and eggs on toast any style. The guy Mike is Filipino/American and does the job right. He is always open at 6.30am and has excellent cheap breakfasts for 100P and HalaHalo shakes for 15P and coffee and hotcxhocalate for 15-30P which is cheap and a place where expats go to but remember cheaper than Hotel breakfasts. 3 fresh tacos made with salsa the best there is for 130P is a good deal.CHEAP and delicious and top up your mobile phones here.. see below

Good for 110P at Lucky Mikes plus the Halo which is basically ice with dessert; milk

Lucky Mikes store ex USA expat filipino and good for Tourist info on Baloy Beach just down the road from Wild Orchid, Bue Rock & Treasure Island. The shops a bit old and tatty but the food is unreal. Mike is a big guy who makes you welcome

You can catch the bus either Fly the Bus or the Southern Cross Hotel Bus which leaves Angeles from the BRASS KNOB HOTEL 440 21st St, Don Juico Ave Clarkeville, Angeles City ( 045-892-5475 run by a nice Australian couple Roy and Tess. Just book in your hotel for the bus trip and the van will pick you up and deliver you to the bus Hotel.SOUTHERN CROSS HOTEL IS IN 1122 M.H. If calling by phone a few days ahead call again as the lady we used forget our booking from Subic to Manila so lucky we checked. Have to walk to the Wild Orchid which is only across the road and down the side?? If youre on a budget use the Victory Bus Line or the Minibus for 130P besdie the Victory Bus. Subic is a small town just look for Olongapo Square where Olongapo statue is.

.

Fly the Bus leaves Angeles -Subic 10am Mon-Wed-Fri-Sun from Swagman Resort to any Hotel in Subic Bay. For more info on Subic Bay [ Hotels & Subic info ] Also theres a good minbus leaves beside Victory Terminal Bus station in Subic every hour for 130P to Angeles.

The 130P minibus 12 seater vans Subic to Angels every hour next to Victory Bus Terminal takes1 hour

There are many hotels in Subic Bay. They have road and seaplane transport that can be arranged from manila. They are famous for their pasta and have wireless internet ad 18 rooms so may pay to book in season..

Updated Jeepney with new front

There are many hotels, resorts, apartments, guesthouses in Subic Bay but the most convenient for the average traveller is the WILD ORCHID OR THE BLUE ROCK HOTEL or HARLEYS OR TREASURE ISLAND ON THE COAST a stones throw from each other. Blue Rock owners are Australian and they have a good business here but lack WIFI internet in the rooms???whereas Treasure Island has WIFI as does Wild orchid and Harleys . The beach is not much and the sand not white but its OK for RnR and you don't see deck chairs like Pattaya beaches. The views are of the ships anchored ready to come into port but its OK & popular the Island and Blue Rock have floating bars where you go out on a raft to drink on the floating raft. All have good meals in true Aus fashion but you dont get drinks with breafast which is unlike Thailand. The rooms are excellent as is the Hawaiian staff?? decor. The buses will drop you right outside the door at any Hotel you choose but their are all apartments and Apellettes you can stay if you want cheaper digs. . Another Hotel at the back of this is the HARLEY BAR & HOTEL which is UK/Swedish management: Baloy long Beach, Barrio Barretto, Olongapo City, Zambales, Philippines 2200. Tel/fax: (+63) 472246922 or email: harleyspub@yahoo.com or website: www.harleyspub.com so take your choice on what you want.

Harley Hotel has a small beachfront but no good for bathers or sunbathing.

OUR OPINION ON SUBIC BAY:

Try the jeepneys if going into town from the Blue Rock or Wild Orchid or Treasure Island Hotels/Resorts as they charge too much for hotel taxis & vans. Be yourself as its not dangerous to travel the alternative transports. The small sidecars cost 25P to get to the main road and the trip into town is only 12P. Subic Bay is a rip off place at the Hotels really and the beaches are not as good as Thailand. In fact about 10 metres behind the jetskis based at the Blue Rock the sewer runs right into the sea and theres lots of plastic in the water probably due to the rivers being choked with plastic bags. For a couple of days Ok go to Subic but theres better places to spend your time in the Philippines if you want good beaches. Have a look at the rivers and klongs in Subic and that will make your mind up about swimming at the resorts???? they are choked with plastic bags and raw sewerage which the government is unable to control even in Manila??

Subicwater Co. discharges raw sewage from the Central Business District into Subic Bay from an outfall located on the bottom of the Bay, eighty feet under the surface, directly offshore from the Chamber office. Subicwater will not build a sewage treatment plant to treat the raw sewage it is now dumping into the Bay even in 2009. Subicwater is obliged to invest and construct a main central sewerage treatment plant in SBMA to eliminate sewage outfalls to Subic Bay and it's been 11 years in operation and nothing has been done--warning to swimmers.
