When arriving make sure you have a hotel book and if by train avoid all touts at the airport and head below and to the taxi stand. The Taxis are excellent and they now have a better system than 10 years ago and got rid of thew old red taxis for VWs etc green and brown ones. They always have the meter going and are much better than before. Below is a good Hotel and cheaper to book direct on the net. The Chundu Hotel 3 star has big rooms and theres not much else in the Hotel but its clean safe, quiet, lively rooms with complimentary soap, matches, slippers, shower gel etc and easy access to the metro (*MTR approx 4RMB to go 4 stations) and also to the computer plaza and other plazas. The restaurant next door is open for Chinese buffet and very cheap ( 30RMB for 3-4 dishes ) so have your meals here.
The Street alongside has very cheap travel bags, shirts and toiletry -- etc. $HK100 = 419 baht
