REVIEWS OF GPS GARMIN IN THAILAND

WHAT TO BUY & LOOK FOR IN A GARMIN NUVI GPS

MOST OF THE GPS SYSTEMS IN THAILAND ARE EXPENSIVE. Garmins top of the line Nuvi's and imo... the best portable gps's on the market. The big difference in the 700 series over last years 600 series is the inclusion of multi-destination routing. So if you're a delivery driver or someone that drives a different route with multiple stops each day, then the 700 series is for you. It can even optimize the stops to take the least amount of time. But if you only need to input 1 or 2 stops, then I'd go with the Nuvi 660. It has all the same features of the 760 minus the multi-destination routing. Meaning it has both the bluetooth and traffic reciever included for less of a price. We recommend either one based on your needs. If you've never owned a gps before, it doesn't get any more user friendly than Garmins' Nuvi series.

Stay away from the Garmin "C" series. Yes, they may be cheaper than the Nuvi 350 or 360, but what's inside cannot compare. The "C" series uses an outdated chip that requires direct line of site with the sky for satellite reception, meaning that tall buildings and trees WILL affect reception, and it's calculations are nowhere near as timely as what newer units offer. Not to mention, the "C" series has much older maps and is just plain old antiquated. If you're getting a new gps and spending hard-earned money on it, don't get something that's already out-dated. Whichever gps you decide on, make sure it has the SiRF chip in it. The SiRF chip is the defacto standard in the gps market by leaps and bounds.

Nuvi 750
Garmin has blown TomTom out of the water. The 350/360 were slick units but arguably came up a bit short in the display department when compared to the TomTom - that's all a distant memory now.

This is the most elegant AIO (all in one) GPS navigation solution I've come across to date. IMO, it represents the best compromise between size and functionality on the market today. Beyond this point, increasing the screen size enters the diminishing return territory. The SiRFstarIII chipset, while no longer the absolute best on the market, remains a reliable workhorse with rapid satellite acquisition under even less than ideal conditions. The mapping details are excellent though, as with all mapping programs, is not beyond reproach. The 660 has the most recent highly detailed City Navigator NT maps.

The voice prompts are loud, clear and timely. The ease of use is just fantastic and the visibility and quality of the display are now the gold standard in the industry with a 4.3" WQVGA LCD screen and 480 x 272 pixels. It uses the same low reflection screen as the 360.

POI access is excellent and can be navigated to much more simply than the TomTom unit which requires additional cumbersome steps. The attachment system for the Nuvi is superb and very secure. You can access your POIs directly by name rather than having to go through a cumbersome category menu and then only getting the POIs by proximity as is the case with the TomTom 910. Garmin simply blows TomTom away in the POI functionality department.

This device is intended as an extremely simple point to point navigating AIO GPS navigation solution and is not intended to enable the use of way points or easily changing the course selected by the unit. You have essentially two options: the shortest route and the fastest route. Fortunately, the mapping program selects routs that are very acceptable. Personally, I like to look at the overall route and fiddle with it. This unit is not designed for such use. Microsoft Streets and Trips is ideal for this kind of tinkering, but terrible for point to point navigation while on the go at which the Nuvi has no peer.

Make sure and get the most recent firmware updates on the Garmin website which will fix the known bugs and further improve the functionality. Insofar as functionality goes this unit is as simple as the 350/360. The 350 is so intuitive and easy to use that you will have no problems whatsoever.

The new bluetooth feature enables the use of your hands free bluetooth enabled phone. It's a nice feature, but as with all bluetooth devices
Good:
1. Easy to use and accurate
2. Multi-destination routing
3. Nice design and it is a garmin
4. USB charging is great - compatible with cell phone chargers.
5. Wide screen is nice and bright.
6. Text to speech is great and clear.
7. Lots of POIs

Bad:
1. No carrying case included.
2. FM transmitter is useless –

3. Internal speaker sound low. Since FM transmitter also sucks, use a male 3.5mm to male 3.5mm cable to connect to the AUX input on my stereo if you want to use the car speakers or listen to MP3s.
4. Only windshield mount is included. No good if your windshield is very far away. So get a  friction mount.
5. Sometimes slow to give turn information. In a quick turn situation this is not good. Also at highway speed, when you have to switch lanes this is a problem.
6. Sometimes the unit would recalculate even though I was on the correct route. 7. Included user manual sucks. The more complete manual is available as a pdf on the website but this manual is lacking also.                                                                                                               8. Take out of car when not in use---hates extreme temps
Nuvi 760
The 750 is much cheaper but the 760 not only has the Bluetooth but a faster processor. The only thing needed is a button to go straight back to "View Map" when you are deep in the menu.
Many ways to charge it such as vehicle adapter through the windshield mount (included), USB or AC charger (not included). The FM turner is garbage. Depending on what time of day it is the screen changes background color. During the day the background is a bright easy to see white. At night it changes to a easy to see black background. The setting you can change to always white, always black or to auto.
