CONMEN AND  FRAUDSTERS  UNCOVERED:

There are many fraudsters who come to Thailand to even defraud more. Thailand attracts a lot of misfits including conmen on the run. It is not a haven for these people but if they are not doing anything against the Thai law then they feel they can do what they like mainly to other foreigners and get away with it. The hardest thing for the foreigner is that they are conned without any recourse or return of their money. Conmen play on unwary expats. At the same time it is important to note that those who give money to help those without: "it is easy to give but hard to get back". the BEST idea is don't. Many foreigners cannot go back to their country so use others to support them & once they get away with it then on it goes.

Please note this page has been purchased by an ex pat foreigner from the UK

for the sole purposes of assisting those living in Thailand.

UNDER THAI LAW YOU NEED THE FOLLOWING IF YOU LEND MONEY:

1/. Better to say no.

2/. Address and contract details of whoever you give money. Ask for their house registration or copy of lease and signed by them and make sure you have 2 witnesses. If a large sum use a lawyer --for 7000-10,000 baht its worth it.

3/. Courts can take 1-3 years to offer a judgement on the return of the money so make sure you know what youre doing. You will also need to appear in Court sometimes 5- 10 times?

4/. Passport copy signed and visa page.

5/. If lending to a company ask for copies of the shareholding lists under 30 days & also directors list. Ask a law office if you need help.

The below database has been set up by Matt Hamilton. Although these people have unpaid debts to Businesses in Thailand unless the creditors who are owed wish to prosecute then these ratbags continue to fleece unsuspecting expats and foreigners in Thailand. All those who have been data based have been checked out via other businesses and individuals who have been subsequently burn't by these individuals and will back up there allegations in a Thai court of law.

Our Company has debtors like many others:

1/. Gerrit van Veen or Gerry van Veen or Jeey Van Veen. = owes money for unpaid account in Thailand ChiangMai to Chiangmai Trader news 5000 baht & others for advertising & rental at a go cart track. Tried to con foreign friends into buying a restaurant that wasn't even working with offers to bring a busload of people thinking the restaurant was busy in return for 30,000 baht. Owed money in February 2003 and closed his restaurant and did a runner perhaps owing others. Said he had a company, owned a turkey raising biz and had 8 work permits on his books??? This individual has no company, no work permit & left in a hurry from his restaurant that went bust on Hangdong Road. He still owes rent money. Last seen in Chiangmai again 2004 with new publication for Holland in Dutch:  another con this time for unwary Dutch folk. Franchises from everything from Thai products to Thai ladies; Thai real estate and non existent magazines. This guy has no company, no license, no work permit, no export license in Thailand and we are happy to say his magazine is a con ---- back in town August 2004 as the printing is cheaper???. A good talker and Dutch conman to be wary of ---be warned. His magazine is looking for franchisees for Thai business from unwary Dutch citizens so be careful. Now under the name Jerry van Veen Owner and Founder Far East Business International & Van Veen International Business Magazine ???????????????????????

2/. CHIANGMAI:= Johan Karl Facchini  2002 hails from Sweden who might say he knows law & worked for the Swedish Embassy in Thailand? but actually was a shady character who was after mean to live here. His Thai wife owns a pig farm near Hot--- South of Chiangmai. He conned  foreigners we know out of nearly 4m baht to invest in an organic pig farm & non existent Turkey raising Company. The amounts conned out of these foreigners involved sums, 150,000 baht min  330,000 baht & over 800,000 baht. Although some money was given into a biz concept which are unrecoverable by the givers, other monies were borrowed with repayment dates. Again we warn folk not to invest into people until you check them out and what they are offering & have a proper contract. If you do not then you are like those who invest in the stock scams---trying to make a fast buck. It is illegal for foreigners to own a pig raising farm let alone work on one. In this case if the Thai wife owns the land no way can these people get a return of their money accept those who lent the money to a non existent turkey company---fraud.

3/. There are more conmen in Chiangmai so watch out when one is accosted in bars & restaurants. There are a few unwary characters that have plied on good expats for years here and are still running free. Recently an Australian frauster was caught after keeping the money for a restaurant rent from a fellow Australian. He was caught red handed in Bangkok by the Australian Commonwealth Police we believe for fraud in Australia --- his name was Kevin?

DON'T YOU GET CAUGHT OUT.

If you are doing business in Thailand and approached by individuals who say they have companies or work permits then write to us as we can check for you. Many dreamers and conmen come to Thailand so its not just the Thai bar girls who fleece you --- your own expatriats will also play for your pocket. Check unlicensed share traders on our website. There are many operating in Bangkok but unless complaints are filed with Thai Police nothing can be done against these companies. They have all  made unsolicited calls to Australians & others and who do not hold a current licence with the [ ASIC in Australia .]  (Australian Securities Investment Commission).

When the ASIC hear of a new name the ASIC check whether they are licensed  . Without an Australian licence, they operate unlawfully. Warning to all Thailand and Asian investors, please check to see if they are licensed on the ASIC professional registers, and if not, hang up.
Please email details to the ASIC Infoline at infoline@asic.gov.au

PLEASE TAKE NOTE
Do not accept unsolicited overseas salespeople who phone with high pressure sales tactics to sell you shares. You risk losing your money if you invest with them. Selling shares to Australians without an ASIC licence and a prospectus is illegal under the Corporations Act 2001.
Do not rely on the word of a complete stranger using high pressure sales tactics over the phone who promises high returns. The companies who swindled  in Thailand issued receipts to customers no Certificates and no shares.  When called, you should always check the ASIC database of licensed securities dealers, investment advisers and their representatives.

Check professional registers before you agree to anything. You can also check whether a prospectus has been lodged with the ASIC. Use ONLY licensed Australian dealers or world wide licensed dealers. Telephone number of the Australian Embassy in Bangkok is 66-2287-2680 and the telephone number of the New Zealand Embassy in Bangkok is 66-2254-2530.
