DIVING TO FISHING TRIPS

The good thing about Sihanoukville is its beaches and the endless islands that one can explore, the fresh air & the coastal breeze. The outer islands have good snorkel visibility and they all have rocky reefs with water coral shallows where you will see colourful tropical fish. Lots of scuba diving, island hopping or just drinking & eating on board cruising the ocean with Jim Chrispin and Brian Renouf, the boys that know their fish and their business.

Koh Pos or snake island is the closest island off Victory beach but good snorkeling is koh Koang Kang or (Koh Tas), about and hour away. then you have Koh Rong Samlem abour 2 hours away with sheltered beaches x8. When you get northerlies (Nov to Feb) the better islands for fishing are Koh Khteah, koh Ta Kiev &  Koh Chraloh. Good diving also off Koh Ta Kiev where you get giant mussels. The best diving is 4-8 hours out to koh Tang, Koh Prins and Paulo Wai. Koh Prins has 2 wrecked ships to explore. Koh Tang is interesting as it was involved in the US /Khmer Rouge incidents on May 1975 & worth a look.

PORT OF SIHANOUKVILLE:& the Beaches

Built around 1955 to 1960 this port is 11-13m deep and houses our fishing  boat. Ships approach from the West or SW between koh Pos & the mainland. The beaches are just out of this world and you can hire deck chairs for $1 a day. White sand everywhere with no undertide with Sokha beach  where you can go snorkelling. Ochheuteal Beach: called UNTAC Beach is long and narrow where you have the Seaside a& Crustal Hotels & midrange Holiday & Orchidee Hotels. Serendipity beach is where the backpackers go and you have Chuck's beach Place and Coasters. Independence Beach has the old Independence Hotel that was shelled by the Yanks but is OK. Here you find the Sea Breeze Hotel with monkeys on the road. Last but not least there's Victory beach which is long and sandy. It costs approx $1 to go from the town to the beach on the back of a Honda Dream.

FROM PATTAYA OR THE BORDER OF HAT LEK:

We arrange mini bus tours from Pattaya to Hat Lek and from Hat Lek to Sihanoukville for $US20 as well as the return trip. You can book right here online. Go to the link below. The Thai army are now doing this road up which is a lot better than the Aranyaprathet to Siam Reap road and a good trip as you have to go by wooden ferry over rivers. The new bridge over the Koh Kong River has been finished April 4th thanks to the Japanese but you still have to go over 4 rivers by ferry which is a good break from sitting in the mini bus for the 5-6 hour drive. We have our own mini bus and do the runs from Sihanoukville every 2nd day but can take you to meet the buses from Pattaya. If you want to go from Pattaya to the border we have buses that do this run every day-- cost is 500 baht.
